One-Step Pickling & Passivation of Stainless Steel– No Hydrofluoric or ABF Acids

Praxair’s ProStar™ Elimitint™ P&P weld tint remover simplifies the pickling (cleaning) and passivating (restoration) of chromium oxide on stainless steel and nickel alloys.

Uses

Step 1) Preparation

 

  • Use and store (near the ground) at temperatures between 50-90°F (10-32°C) for best results.
  • This product Must Not be diluted or mixed with other products.
  • Preclean cool surfaces of dust, oil and other contaminants with ProStar Alkaline Cleaner (PRS AC14400) as described in ASTM, section A380 and A967.
  • Surface should be smooth and free of weld spatter.
  • Score welds with a clean stainless steel hand brush.

2) Application

Applying the All Position Paste:

  • Stir, then apply Elimitint paste with an industrial sprayer at approximately 20 psig for an even application and increased coverage rate per gallon.
  • Application by brush is effective but may result in lower coverage rates.

Applying the Flat Position & Dipping Gel

  • Place gel into a drum or tank made from virgin High Density Polyethylene (HDPE).
  • Stir gel, then immerse treated part into gel.
  • Reduce potential air pockets by gently rocking the submerged part back and forth.
  • Gel may be used on horizontal surfaces.

Applying the Liquid:

  • Pump liquid into piping systems, tanks, vessels and heat exchangers to treat internal surfaces.
  • Apply like the gel when dipping complex parts.

3) Treatment or Dwell Time:

  • Do not agitate or interfere with product after application; leave undisturbed until desired results are achieved.
  • Best results are usually achieved within 90-120 minutes of the application.*
  • Treatment time varies due to user expectations, welding parameters, shielding gas** and base metal variables.
  • Warmer temperatures will reduce dwell time.
  • Wipe any residuals or discoloration with a blue or green Scotch-Britepad.
  • Elimitint contains no hydrofluoric acid, so treatment or dwell time can be indefinite without damaging the weld or base metal.
  • Elimitint uses a one-step process to pickle and passivate. When the weld or base metal is effectively pickled (cleaned), no further steps are required.



4) Removal and Disposal:

  • Remove product by wiping, washing, using a plastic scrub brush or pressure washing.
  • Never remove product with a metal or wire brush – cross-contamination may occur.
  • Rinse treated area with water. Always filter rinse water of metals and capture filtered water with holding tanks before disposal in accordance with local regulations.
  • Before disposal, always verify that the disposal method complies with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Dispose of rinse water and filtered metal oxides separately in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
